charitable giving

We've all heard the expression "charity begins at home" and with the rag 'n' phone man recycling scheme you can literally help a charity close to your heart from the comfort of your own home. We pay up to 50p per kg for the items and our collectors weigh your bags on your doorstep. The high costs associated with traditional door-to-door collection methods mean that charities that do not have their own shops and the majority of them don't, only benefit to the tune of between £0.20 and £1 for a 10 kg bag. Under the rag 'n' phone man textile recycling scheme, the same bag will generate up to £5.00.

By receiving the money direct you can be empowered to donate the funds raised to a charity of your choice, not one dictated by the name on a bag. Furthermore if you are a UK taxpayer, there are options on the web which enable this to be done efficiently - www.justgiving.com or www.virginmoneygiving.com can convert a £10 donation into £12 to a charity of your choice by adding gift-aid to your contribution. This means that two 10 kg bags under the rag 'n' phone man textile and mobile phone recycling scheme is equivalent to 20 bags donated to a door-to-door collection scheme where the amount per tonne paid to the charity is £50 per tonne.

For higher rate taxpayers, if you declare your donation on your tax return you can claim a rebate based on the difference between the higher rate and the basic rate when you fill in your self assessment form and nominate the charity you wish to receive the rebate. So if you managed to assemble 20 bags each weighing 10 kgs, you would receive £100 from the rag 'n' phone man to which would be added £28 if you donated the £100 as gift-aid and then a further £23 could be reclaimed from the tax-man.

This means 200 kgs under the rag 'n' phone man textile and mobile recycling scheme is equivalent to 3020 kgs for a door-to-door collection paying £50 per tonne.
